Clay Macaron Ornaments

Tuesday, December 2, 2014
I saw the cutest macaron ornaments while I was in New York, and thought they would make the perfect lazy afternoon crafting project... complete with hot chocolate and a viewing of Love Actually, of course! These would make a great gift, or just a fun way to jazz up your holiday tree, so here's what you'll need to make a macaron ornament of your own:

SUPPLIES: CLAY | ACRYLIC PAINT | PAINT BRUSH | EYE HOOKS | ORNAMENT HOOKS
TIME: 2 HOURS | DIFFICULTY RATING: MODERATE
Start by breaking a small amount of clay off and warming it between your hands. Roll it into a ball, then flatten it down into a flat, round shape. Repeat this step with the same amount of clay, then do the same thing with a piece of clay that's about half the size.
Use the smaller layer of clay to sandwich the two larger pieces together, then gently press down to bind everything together.
Repeat this process for as many macaron as you plan to make (I went for a cool half dozen). When everything's nice and done, insert an eye hook through the top of each macaron and pop them in the oven according to the package's baking instructions (or about 45 minutes at 275◦).
After your ornaments are cooled and fully hardened, paint them with acrylic paint. I went for pink with white filling, but feel free to get creative with this part!
When everything is nice and dry, attach the ornament hooks and you're done! Easy peasy.
Thanks for reading loves, and it you give these a try, I would love to see photos! xx
