No-Sew Passport Holder

Tuesday, September 2, 2014
I love passport holders as much as the next girl, but it seems like they're harder and harder to come by these days... Unless you want to drop some serious coin for a designer case, let me tell you, it's slim pickings. That realization, coupled with the fact that I can't sew to save my life, led to this easy, no-sew project that you can whip up quickly, easily and — most importantly — affordably. Here's what to do!

SUPPLIES: SHEET OF VINYL (AVAILABLE AT MICHAELS)  | SCISSORS | GLUE | SPONGE
TIME: 15 MINUTES (ALLOW TO DRY OVERNIGHT) | DIFFICULTY RATING: EASY

Start by measuring your passport directly on the vinyl sheet, then mark an extra 1.5" to the top and bottom of the sheet, and 2.5" to each side. Once that's all traced out, cut off any excess vinyl. Fold the sheet in half to form a crease (this will help guide you as you go), then fold the 2.5" sides in as well.

Add some strong glue along the crease and down the sides of the piece you will be folding over (see above), then press down firmly to adhere. Once you've completed this step on both sides, place the holder in a heavy book and let it dry that way overnight. The next day you'll have a perfectly creased, sturdy passport holder without having to sew a thing... eureka!

Lack of ample passport holder options notwithstanding, there's another reason why I whipped up this DIY for you guys... I'm going to the big apple, and I'd love for you to come with me! Thanks to my friends at Newwest Travel, I'll be hitting New York from Nov. 12-17 along with Edmonton Journal food writer, Liane Faulder. We'll be doing culinary tours of the city (including a hands-on cooking class at the Institute of Culinary Education), taking in a Broadway show, and doing some serious shopping, and we'd love to have you join us!

Learn more about the trip here (imagine how much fun we would have!), and as always, thanks for reading! xx
