Buy Myself All of My Favourite Things: Designer Consignment Edition

And from my last post complaining about arctic temperatures straight into desert climes, here's a throwback to when I visited Palm Springs over the holidays and was toasty warm... those were the days. It's hard to even imagine bare limbs at this point, but just humour me... or better yet, let's book a trip somewhere hot and all be warm together. Now we're talking.

Besides the obvious perks of exploring Palm Springs— the sights! the food! the relaxation!— I honestly was just happy to be wearing cute, parka-free outfits that necessitated the use of self tanner. This knit dress from VICI was almost too warm to don, but it was the coziest throw-on-and-go piece for anything from sightseeing to straight chilling (my speciality). Sheer tights, over-the-knee boots and a cozy coat would have made it equally wearable back home, but its true essence really shone through in this setting. Again, let's book a trip somewhere, please. If not for us, then for all our poor summer dresses— they need it more than we do.

One thing that always takes a medium outfit to the next level is accessories, be it jewelry, a great pair of sunnies— I'm currently obsessed with these Quay Australia ones, but I digress— or a designer bag. I instantly feel way more put together when my accessory game is strong, even if I'm just wearing jeans and a plain white tee. Such is the power of the accessory, and particularly the designer bag. I have a *slight* addiction to purses, and although I like 'em pricey, I also like to save money when buying them, so designer consignment is always a great way to go if you're similarly inclined. Here are some of my favourite sites for getting the look for less if you're in the market for some pre-loved designer wares:

THE REALREAL

A classic in the designer consignment world, The RealReal has signed up 4.5 million users and sold over 2 million items since its inception in 2011. And if you think that's impressive, the company was built from scratch by its visionary CEO— Julie Wainwright— from her kitchen table. The site totes any designer you could possibly think of, with guaranteed authenticity, and is a great way to find what your looking for at a much lower price point. My personal favourite brand to stalk on the site Gucci, of which they have a sizeable collection.

VESTIAIRE COLLECTIVE

Another personal favourite, this was the site I first made a designer consignment purchase from— a leather 3.1 Phillip Lim jacket that I still own and love to this day. Similar to The RealReal, Vestiaire has an incredible assortment of designer goodies, both vintage and more contemporary, that are very fairly priced. Their 'Just In' section is probably one of my most-visited webpages, if that means anything to you... good stuff, people.

FASHIONPHILE

This is probably my most purchased-from designer consignment site, mainly because I went through a pretty big Phillip Lim/Alexander Wang phase a few years back that Fashionphile was able to fuel. They have great of-the-moment designer goodies, and they're also fairly priced. This one's not a members-only site, so feel free to peruse their 'New in' section to get your drool on (hi, I want this).

Want more? Some other great sites to check out while you're falling down the designer-consignment rabbit hole include Luxury Garage Sale, LePrix, My Luxury Closet, The Upside, and of course, good old Ebay— to name but a few.
