Worth the Hype: Charlotte Tilbury

Worth the Hype: Charlotte Tilbury
I can't tell you how much hype I've read— and rave reviews I've watched on Youtube— singing the praises of Charlotte Tilbury, a UK beauty brand that seems to get it right every. single. time. So naturally I wanted in. Hey man, beauty FOMO is a very real thing. So here we are, many swatches, applications and squeal-fests later, and I can say with confidence that the hype is very much real. Allow me to elaborate.

First up, let's talk about the base products I tried. The Wonder Glow Instant Soft-Focus Beauty Flash was a product I was skeptical of at first glance, but as soon as I tried it, I was hooked. Marketed as an "anti-age elixir," this priming product is said to convert UV light into a luminous, spotlight-finish on the skin, giving a lovely all-around glow that shines through whichever foundation you choose to apply over it. If you're blessed with clear skin, you can bypass foundation and wear this product on its own for the same effect (you lucky so-and-so), but let's be real, most of us will be slathering a little  something on top... #RealityBites

Next, the cheek product to end all cheek products — and not just because it slightly resembles that of a boob. The Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop Blusher is amazing because it gives a nice, pigmented pop of colour but still manages to look super natural on the skin. Basically you swish the outer shade across your cheekbones, then pop the middle shade on the apples of your cheeks for a natural flush.

Next up, the eyes... you guys know I'm not one for daily eyeshadow use, but this quad really does live up to its moniker — luxurious is the perfect way to describe it. From the packaging all the way down to the buttery-soft formula, I'm super impressed by these shadows. The colours are gorgeous, there's no fall-out and they blend effortlessly. The eye liner is also quite nice (although I wish I had grabbed it in a darker shade), and the mascara is perfect for fluttery, natural day-time lashes. I don't usually stray from the drugstore when it comes to mascara (at the speed I go through them, it just doesn't make 'cents' to buy high-end mascaras), but this one makes me see the value of shelling out for luxury mascara — Zero clumps! No flaking! It's like a whole new world has opened up to me.

First things first, can we just take a moment to appreciate the packaging of these products? Holy rose gold, Batman! Stunning doesn't even begin to describe them (can you tell I'm impressed with this range?),  and the formulas are honestly just as gorgeous. The one product I had been most eager to try was the Lip Cheat lip liner in 'Pillowtalk', as I had heard so many beauty bloggers going nuts over it, and it looked so gorgeous in all the tutorial videos I had watched. And although the formula really is incredible, the colour just doesn't suit me — it's washed-out city over here. But not to worry, I'm happy to layer other colours on top, like 'Stoned Rose' (the creamiest of creamy lippies). All is well in the world again.

A few final words on the brand— and what's sold me on it the most— is that it's completely cruelty-free. They don't test products or ingredients on animals, nor do their suppliers, and they don't sell their products in China (where the government requires animal testing)... as if we needed another reason to love Charlotte. xx

    1. Hi Cassie! They definitely sell Charlotte Tilbury at Holt Renfrew, but I'm not sure if it's stocked in Edmonton yet; they definitely carry it in Vancouver and Toronto, and I'm assuming Calgary as well :)
