Here's a little-known fact about me: I'm pretty much blind. I have to wear contact lenses every day, otherwise I would basically have to stand with my nose pressed against yours in order to see your face... no joke. I got my first pair of glasses (baby pink frames, thank you very much) when I was seven, and I can still remember the first time I put them on — I was amazed by how crisp and clear the world around me looked, because I had come to assume that blurred vision was the norm. Pardon the pun, but that day was a real eye-opener for me. Fast forward a couple decades, and eye health is still something I do my best not to take for granted. Regular eye exams, thoroughly-cleansed and regularly-discarded contact lenses, and evenings spent wearing glasses to give my eyes a break are all steps I take to keep my eyes healthy, so when Pearle Vision approached me to visit one of their locations, I was all over it. This was partially because I was due for an eye exam anyway, and partially because I had heard great things over the years about the company in terms of the doctors it's affiliated with and it's extensive eye wear selection.

So off I went to Pearle Vision Sherwood Park Mall to get my eyes examined by a lovely doctor (what up, Dr. Jones!) who was equal parts professional and relatable — it was my first time visiting such a young doctor, and her demeanor put me right at ease, especially during not-so-fun activities like having bright lights shone into my eyes... you know what I'm talking about.
The entire staff was amazing to deal with, and the exam was incredibly thorough and even included an Optomap Retinal Exam, which screens for early detection of disease and abnormalities in the last layer of the retina — it's a pretty remarkable tool in terms of being able to assess one's overall health based on factors visible in the eye. The doctor was saying that she has had patients discover that they have diabetes by using this machine, which is crazy! My scan thankfully came out clean, but I'll definitely continue to ask for this test moving forward.

After all my questions were answered and my eye exam was complete, I moved on to the fun part — picking out new frames! Anyone who wears glasses on the regular knows how nice it feels to switch up your specs, which is why I was so pumped to come across this pair from Prada.
They fit my face perfectly and were exactly what I was looking for — win-win! The company also offers direct billing to your health insurance, so that made things all the more easy come checkout time... win-win-win.
