Travel Makeup Must Haves

Next week I'll be heading to New York with Newwest Travel for a few days, so naturally I've been frantically making packing lists all week long. I don't want to forget anything essential, but I don't want to pack too much either — you know how it is. So while planning what makeup to bring, I decided to cover all my bases with a few simple products that can work day or night, with a few lip options thrown in for good measure — hey, a girl needs variety!
First up, the base. I decided to go for three products and one brush to get me through the trip, all of which are compact, lightweight and travel friendly. The Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Foundation is perfect for getting ample coverage with a nice, satin finish, while the Real Techniques stippling brush is all I'll need for a perfect application. Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind concealer will help conceal all my jet lag woes, while Chanel's Les Beige is equally great for setting everything as it is for touch ups on the go. And because I don't want to fuss with multiple brushes, Clinique's Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm is coming with me for it's easy, brush-free application abilities. Bonus? I'm packing the nail polish I'm wearing on the trip in case it chips — you know what they say — always be prepared.
From there, it's all about the eyes. I can't go a day without my L'Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga mascara or my Stila Stay All Day Waterproof liquid eyeliner, so those are definitely coming with me (duh). An inexpensive eyeliner from Annabelle will take care of my waterline, while the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics palette's got me covered for all my eyeshadow needs. It's compact and super light, but with six great shades that can easily take me from day to night. A MAC 217 brush will also be packed up, along with my Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil and Tweezerman Brow Mousse to keep my brows in place... easy peasy.
Finally, the fun part — lips! I didn't want to go buck wild here, but I thought it important to cover all the bases. To keep my lips nice and soft, I've packed Clarins' Instant Light Lip Perfector — it'll act as a lip balm at night and a natural finish during the day. For a slightly more impactful natural finish, I opted for my trusty Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte (good stuff) and Nars' 'Schiap' for a fun, in-your-face fuchsia. Finally, if I'm feeling in the mood for a dark, fall appropriate look, the Nars Satin Lip Pencil in 'Golshan' is all I'll need... done and done.
I'm so excited to be leading a couple shopping tours for Newwest Travel and the Edmonton Journal while in New York (we're going to be hitting up Fifth Ave. and the Brooklyn Flea's Winter Market big time!), as well as embarking on some amazing food tours and, you know, general merriment, so be sure to follow along with us on Twitter and Instagram! xx
